Council leaves future for war memorials open to question

A motion from Conservative Councillors led by Cllr Spencer Drury and Cllr John Hillshas been ignored as Labour-run Greenwich Council has refused to publish or prepare a timetable for the restoration of the borough’s war memorials despite the Centenary of World War One starting in 2014.

Survey reveals high level of mould and damp in council housing

A Conservative survey of council flats in Eltham North ward has revealed that over half of Council tower block flats are suffering from mould as a result of poor maintenance.

Council destroying High Streets while increasing residents parking profits

Data published today by independent charity the RAC Foundation has revealed that Greenwich Council has again increased its parking profits paid by residents this year. For the last three years parking charges and the cost of permits have more than doubled or trebled, and in some places charges in Eltham have gone up by 280%. In that time the council's profits from parking have soared by over 90%.

Conservatives urge residents to support an ‘Urgent Care Centre’ in Eltham

Despite having the idea of including an “Urgent Care Centre” (or Minor Injuries Unit) in the new Eltham Community Hospital rejected by the Labour Council in July this year, Conservatives are urging residents to respond to the “Right Care, First Time” consultation where the option is being actively considered.

Update on Eltham Parking Zone consultation

Councillors Adam Thomas and Spencer Drury met with local residents at the start of December to discuss the consultation on the creation of a new, large controlled parking zone (CPZ) across the Eltham area. The proposed area includes parts of four different wards including Eltham West and Middle Park & Sutcliffe in addition to Eltham North and Eltham South (which Spencer and Adam represent).

Conservative team's petition to 'Mend The Mound' reaches more than 600 signatures

A petition calling on the council to 'Mend The Mound' shopping area on the Coldharbour estate will be handed in by the Conservative team in Coldharbour & New Eltham ward at tonight's council meeting, after gaining 642 signatures in just a few weeks.

Small Business Saturday Raised £468 million

2014 Conservative Candidate for Blackheath Westcombe Thomas Turrell welcomes the news that Small Business Saturday UK raised £468 million for small businesses across the UK. An Average of £33 per head.

Enforcing 20mph on Westcombe Hill - 80% exceed the speed limit

Blackheath Westcombe Councillor Geoff Brighty presented a petition, organised by the local Neighbourhood Watch group, asking Greenwich Council to take action to ensure that the 20mph speed limit on Westcombe Hill is more effectively enforced. Having handed in the petition at the July Council meeting the Council’s Traffic Officers reported in the autumn, firstly to the Highways Committee and then back to the next full Council meeting and Geoff spoke in support of residents concerns on both occasions.

Results of Dobell Road consultation mean road will not be closed

Greenwich Council have decided to extend the no parking restrictions at the junction of Dobell Road and Well Hall Road following a consultation with residents in the area. Other options for the junction were imposing a ‘no right turn’ or blocking the road off completely.

Council announces Parking Zone survey for Eltham Park area

Residents across Eltham Park and near Eltham Station have been receiving surveys from Greenwich Council asking their views about the introduction or extension of the Controlled Parking Zone in the area.
