Six more candidates selected for Greenwich local elections

Greenwich Conservatives have selected a further six candidates for the 2018 local elections. Local Party members in Blackheath Westcombe and Eltham North wards selected their teams of three candidates each at selection meetings held over the last fortnight.

In Blackheath Westcombe ward, sitting Councillor and Group Whip Geoff Brighty was re-selected by members to stand in 2018, and will be joined by local campaigners Roger Tester and Thomas Turrell.

Roger Tester runs a local small business and has lived in the area all of his life. A keen cyclist, he has campaigned for road safety improvements in the borough. Thomas Turrell stood in the ward in 2014 and has run several high-profile local campaigns, including successfully securing additional capacity on the 108 bus route.

Councillor Geoff Brighty said: “I am absolutely delighted that Roger and Thomas have been selected by members to stand for Blackheath Westcombe Ward in 2018. They are both fully committed to the area, work hard and would be first class Councillors. I'm looking forward to working with them.”

In Eltham North ward, sitting Councillor and former opposition leader Spencer Drury was re-selected, and will be joined by former Eltham candidates Charlie Davis and James Shipp.

Charlie Davis lives on Dunvegan Road and works in financial services, and previously stood to be an Eltham councillor in the 2014 local elections. James Shipp lives on Craigton Road and works for a Member of Parliament. James was also an Eltham council candidate in 2014 and has played a key role in local campaigns.

Councillor Spencer Drury said: “Charlie and James are both hard working local campaigners and I would like to congratulate them on their selection. With this Labour-run council, there is a huge amount of work to do to stand up for residents interests and make sure their voices are heard – and I’m looking forward to working with Charlie and James to make sure Eltham North gets the strong representation it needs.”

So far twelve out of 51 Conservative candidates have been selected, with Eltham South and Coldharbour & New Eltham having become the first wards in London to select their Conservative teams for 2018 last month. Further wards will follow in the coming months.
