Congratulations to Theresa May and her new Cabinet

Greenwich Conservatives would like to send our congratulations to the new Prime Minister and her Cabinet, and our thanks to former Prime Minister David Cameron for his achievements over 11 years as Leader of the Conservative Party.

Amongst last week's appointments, former Eltham South ward councillor Liz Truss has become the UK's first female Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, and neighbouring Bexley MP James Brokenshire joins the Cabinet as Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.

Councillor Geoff Brighty, Chairman of the Greenwich Conservative Federation, said: "It is important that with the challenges ahead we have a strong Prime Minister, someone who is experienced and a proven and tough negotiator who will stand up for our country. Theresa May has all those qualities.

"From a local perspective our new Prime Minister spent eight years as a Councillor in Merton and so understands London and its needs better than most. We look forward to supporting her as she delivers the strong Conservative government we need."
