Plans change for the John Roan

The long planned move of the John Roan School to the Peninsula has been halted. The School Governors decided that as there was no definitive timetable for the completion of the school that the school will stay on its current sites.

Ward Councillor and former John Roan pupil Cllr Alex Wilson said: “I welcome the governors' decision as I think this will allow the school to maintain its community ethos and will mean that the pupils will have an adequate playground which the Peninsula plans did not provide. I have campaigned over the years for a better school for the John Roan and I don't think that the site down on the Peninsula provided this. A new John Roan needs to be a smaller school with better facilities.” Conservatives understand that there is no timetable for rebuilding the current school or deadline for completing it.
