Charlie Davis was elected as the new Conservative councillor for Eltham Town and Avery Hill on Greenwich Council last night, following yesterday’s by-election in the ward.
Charlie was elected with a majority of 541 votes following a 10% swing in support away from Greenwich Labour to Greenwich Conservatives. The result is the second by-election victory chalked up by local Conservatives in six months, and means Charlie Davis joins Councillor Pat Greenwell representing residents in Eltham, New Eltham and Avery Hill at the Town Hall.
Councillor Charlie Davis said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been elected by my fellow residents in Eltham Town & Avery Hill as our new councillor.
We fought a relentlessly positive campaign focused on the issues that matter to residents and a positive vision for Eltham, New Eltham and Avery Hill from supporting our high street, protecting our parks and green open spaces, to campaigning for a new police base in our area.
“I cannot wait to get started working with Councillor Pat Greenwell to deliver my plan for our communities and to give them another strong local voice in the Town Hall.”
Councillor Matt Hartley, Leader of Greenwich Conservatives, said: “ "We've now won two by-elections in the last six months - and the Labour administration running Greenwich Council really should be asking themselves why that is. People in the south of the borough just don't feel the Council is listening to their views, and they're going to keep saying so at the ballot box.
“I am absolutely thrilled that Charlie will be joining our larger Opposition Group, which means we will be able to do even more to hold the Council to account and give residents the strong, independent voice they need.”
